Program Description:

Living in Brussels

Brussels is a vibrant, multi-cultural city with both a rich history and a constantly evolving future. Not only is it the capital of Belgium, but many consider it to be the capital of Europe. Brussels is the principal center of the European Commission, the EU Council of Europe, and the European Parliament. It is also home to the political arm of NATO and the corporate headquarters of many multi-national firms. For students of political science, international studies, history, economics and business, Brussels has much to offer. It is, after all, at the core of activity driving the European Union. Opportunity abounds within EPA internships for students to work closely with those entities shaping the political, social and economic profile of the present day – and future European Union.

Internships (Unpaid, Academic, Work Placements)
Internship fields: Politics & Law: European Parliament, U.S. Mission to the E.U., Lobbying Organizations Business: Banking/Finance Companies, Business Associations
Communications: (French Fluency Highly Recommended) PR/Marketing Firms; Industry Associations
Health: Health Ed & Advocacy
Media: (French Fluency Required) Museums, Radio/TV, Journalism
Non-Profit Organizations: Humanitarian Aid & Peace Organizations, Community Service/Outreach Programs.

All internships are unpaid. Summer internships are full-time, and students do not take classes.

Summer students do not take classes.

Most students live in dormitory-style apartments. Occasionally students live in rented sections of family homes where students have a private bedroom and bathroom, and kitchen facilities that may be shared. Local staff arrange housing for students prior to their arrival.

Most internships are in English. Some media internships require French. Students who are proficient in a language and wish to intern in the EU Parliament can request the office of a particular European country.

US students applying for the summer program do not require a visa. Students from other countries may. Please check the Belgian Embassy's website.

Other Requirements

EPA accepts applications from students studying at universities and colleges in the United States and Canada with a 3.0 GPA. At this time the Brussels Summer Program is the only EPA program that  offers placements for graduate students or students who have recently graduated.
